Trails and trials of the writer who walks
Today is a rest day. I have to complete the trail of course by walking the 2 ½ miles into Fort William and photographing the statue at the new ‘end of the West Highland Way’. It’s now next to Wetherspoons in the town centre. Previously it was at a non-descript roundabout.
After doing my duty in that respect, I take a cruise around Loch Linnhe which is unexpectedly good value at £14 as it takes in sightings of sunbathing seals and a porpoise at close quarters. Checking the weather forecast, with the help of free wi-fi in Wetherspoons, the next day promises quite clear skies so I decide to tackle Ben Nevis – the access track is right outside the hostel door, so it would be rude not to.
